Rigor Sardonicous stands for raw and catching Funeral Doom, being performed on the fourth record Vallis Ex Umbra De Mortuus in depressing as oppressing manner. Properly the record is above all determined by an unexcited, almost solemn striking slowness, which is solidified through the extremely sombre held riffs and the dismal distorted, firm and deep guttural vocals.
The atmosphere, emanated from Vallis Ex Umbra De Mortuus, is therefore absolutely disastrous and could perfectly be tolerated as a dying person's soundtrack. This ever dark atmosphere gets affirmed, because Rigor Sardonicous disclaims entirely each harmonic or clear passage that could loosen up the leaden death music. Instead Rigor Sardonicous is confined to an entirely raw Funeral Doom, which occasionally effects rather catching, because along to this slowness changes and alternations take place placidly. Solely the leaden playing is awakening again as in Alveus De Somnus, which rhythm is more sluggish, driving and pressureful.
Vallis Ex Umbra De Mortuus is an impressing piece of death music, where the interacting of slowness, singing and dark toned guitars is pleasing me. These three attributes harmonize superiorly, so Vallis Ex Umbra De Mortuus finally is just wonderful Raw Apocalyptical Doom Metal as Rigor Sardonicous is describing itself. Those who like it slow and slower, dark and darker will definitely be pleased by this record.
