HYADNINGAR - IMMINENT USELESS SOUL | RELEASED: 2006 | LABEL: EWIGER HASS PRODUCTIONS

Imminent Useless Soul is named the debut full-length record, with which French Hyadningar introduces them selves. I didn't surely know what would expect me, but the fact, publishing the record on Ewiger Hass Productions, let my curiosity shooting.

In the first seconds of the introducing song Cross Destitution a magnificent and melancholic violin is heard as soon as an even sad piano. This calm introduction wasn't long before, shortly Hyadningar open up fast and powerful. What is occurring in the impending nine minutes of the first track has thoroughly to be described as diversified. The guitars are inlaid very melancholic and playful from the outset, what above all isn't firstly conspicuous. The originally less distorted but perfect and slight tormented striking vocals does astonish so much. After passing the first fast passage, a slow part is following, the vocals getting deep and powerful. Coming after this short, calm section is a very fast and urging passage, where the 'normal', the slightly clear distorted singing, can be heard and the fast, clear sounding guitars are in charge. This reminds me a little bit on Dissection, and this impression intensifies later on at some moments, which originally sounds like the Swedish band. However Hyadningar doesn't just copy Dissection, it is more like an appreciating honour to one of their main influences. For these special riffs and leading melodies, Imminent Useless Soul is an absolutely independent opus. The finishing of Cross Destitution is hesitating long, the melodic elements continually decrease and the constantly acting drumming, which is remembering a marching rhythm beat, is getting louder. This passage pleases to me, so for all the simple instruments a perfect and present atmosphere is achieved.
The other tracks are also diversified structured, whereby the guitars are ever the effective element. This exactly annoys me, because of the in many places too playing, too varied guitars, and so it's taking the wind out of the driving music's sails. In other words the leading guitar is too melodic. There are nearly permanent heard any changing melodies, so the playing is getting a mouldy or unwieldy character. The music has a lack of straightness and catching inspiration, as it exists during the first song.
Thereby you cannot deny Hyadningar a certain quality in any case, than the materials realizing is impeccable, just too melodic and technical in many places. Probably this is simply, Hyadningar is sounding. Above all the sound gives no occasion for criticism. It's clear, differentiated and even pressureful when necessary. That Hyadningar is able to process discreet melodies is convinced on ...Of Ashes and Dust , which starts melancholic and even attracts of this beautiful and calm melody.

Imminent Useless Soul is certainly no bad record. Those, who like melodic, guitar-focused and multifaceted Black Metal will definitely be pleased herewith. Personally this constantly changing of the guitars displeases me, although I have to say, that the calm and slow, occasionally inserted, passages are thoroughly succeeded.
