GORATH - THE FOURTH ERA | RELEASED: 2006 | LABEL: DESCENT PRODUCTIONS

With their second record The Fourth Era I firstly listen anything of Gorath . The first song Sagittarus begins with a clear, pressureful sound dragging and powerful together. Thereby Gorath conjures up with simple but perfect and very efficacious riffing. The song remains tranquilly with its calm rhythm, the guitars and bass occasionally are rather melodic. Xibalba Be keeps on the harmonic line presently, whereby the guitar melodies are conspicuous here, so they are for once darker yet. Single riffs sporadically remain me of newer Satyricon. Stylistically Gorath thoroughly ascribes to modern and progressive Black Metal with their record The Fourth Era , though not only how you observe in the sequel of Xibalba Be . The initial harmonic and quiet structure is taken off by fast and catching passages unequivocally rise from hand down Black Metal. Differently to Sonic Reign and even Satyricon Gorath's music doesn't depend exclusively on straight, hard and technical structures. In spite of the modern element, 'The Fourth Era' contains a high level of atmospheric and melodic elements. This comes over at 'Create & Renew' very well, one varied shaped title, which has very powerful and sluggish parts, but also hard and fast passages as a magnificent calm and clear centrepiece, consisting of a grand played acoustic guitar.
In The Fifth Birth, an also multifaceted piece, occasionally clear vocals come along with the distorted standard screaming, that doesn`t convince me cause of sounding a little bit like Solefald. That is a pity, then the instrumental transformation and the structural characteristic effects perfectly. Zenith Point is harder and more technical, constituted mid-fast and pressureful. Cosmogenesis outwardly seems right similar to Zenith Point . Hard and technical riffs overweigh and so it is the mid-fast rhythm. But when listen exactly, in certain passages very detailed and calm melodies disclosure, lying softly in the background. Those melodies have something very mysterious, reminding me at Rudra. Probably it let me connect to Rudra, because they treat with strong Hinduism and Vedic influences. Gorath indeed dedicates to cosmology, inspired by the Maya culture.

The Fourth Era is a respectable and decent record, partially having very excellent moments and compositions, but also securing weak phases. Finally each individual opinion determines if you like it.
