Ubi Secreta Colunt is the impressing debut of Arcana Coelestia, a project where MZ of Urna is participating. Ubi Secreta Colunt is a style-overlapping opus, that one hand is very atmospheric and rarely experimental, on the other hand ominous and fierce.
The first song Cult of Solitude is calm and also atmospheric song, which begins very gentle. The first introducing moments of the track are imprinted by an isolated, beautiful and aspheric melody before the remaining instruments and the vocals insert mighty, dark and powerful. The singing is exceedingly deep, gloomy and according to the rhythm very slow. So the initial melody continues. Cult of Solitude is very atmospheric on account of the deep, slow riffs and vocals. Later on this evil instrumental creation is ceased totally for a while and dreamlike, atmospheric melodies get combined with silent, clear singing, which once is whispering and than strong and sonorous.
With the first part of Arcane Knowledge Revealed this atmospheric Funeral Doom style is continuing, harmonic melodies permanently accompany the exceedingly slow drumming together with the leaden riffs. Even here clear, atmospheric passages are heard, which snap the heavy, sombre structure. To the end the music undergoes a change. For a passage the music gets more intensive, the drumming turns up more variable and driving, the deep singing changes to a shrill and distorted voice before the song returns to its initial track and fades out.
The second part of Arcane Knowledge Revealed is differing shortly from the two former titles. From the first the song is penetrated by a heavy, dark atmosphere, achieved by powerful arrangements and a hypnotic melody as you know for instance of Evoken or Dolorian. The rhythm is faster than hitherto, but nevertheless sluggish. The drumming is livelier; the vocals are faster and thereby less deep and dark. After almost three minutes it comes to a quarrel. Entirely unprepared and very fluent Arcana Coelestia passes over to a high-speed part. The drums are hammering inexorably and violently their rhythm, in the background is heard discreetly but highly efficacious a doom keyboard melody. In the course of this passage the drums get faster and faster, the voice more screaming and emphatic, what an amazing creeping part!! The last track Enigma Epitaph is in its first half a powerful-dragging song, entirely in the Funeral Doom style of the both first songs. The second part is more variable. Originally it's driving and powerful, thereby imprinted by a fast, catching riffing, whereby this part is coming over gradually in a calm ambient passage, which fades out the record.
Ubi Secreta Colunt is an impressive atmospheric Funeral Doom record with a divine melody leading. But it isn't merely Funeral Doom. For that it gives too many changes, partly decidedly beautiful sound passages of experimental kind and at least with Arcane Knowledge Revealed Part II vehement eruptions of speediness and brutality. Ubi Secreta Colunt is explicit duty for everyone who likes dark and atmospheric sound collages.
